Abstract

During the last decades, the burning of fossil fuels has been excessive, causing an increase in carbon emissions. Surface temperatures and the occurrence of natural disasters have also increased. Taking into account the important role of forests in reducing emissions and the need to know how good carbon reservoirs are, the need to carry out this research was born, whose main objective was to determine the amount of carbon stored in the Macuya rainforest - Huánuco -Peru. To carry out this research, an inventory of all the plant species found in the area was first carried out. Based on this, we proceeded to calculate, through the use of various mathematical formulas, the stem biomass, the biomass expansion factor, aerial biomass and the amount of carbon stored in understory, litter, necromass, root and soil. It was determined that the amount of carbon stored in the study area was 187.20 t C/ha. As a more relevant conclusion, it is stated that the humid forest "Macuya" is a forest of great importance because it represents an important carbon reservoir in the national territory. In addition, this study represents a breakthrough in the prediction of forest biomass and vegetation carbon storage in the “Macuya” forest, improved the accuracy of carbon storage prediction and filled a gap in research on the properties carbon storage of plant species characteristic of the area.
