Abstract

Diabetes is one of the oldest known diseases in the world recorded since ancient times. Early perception of this disease, which can be constructed from available ancient medical texts, is indeed amazing in view of our current knowledge. Many medicinal plants in ancient Indian medicine have been used to control the hyperglycemic condition and effectively maintain normal glucose levels. Several medicinal plants have recently been evaluated for antihyperglycemic property and have been proven for their effects. The present work was undertaken to formulate and evaluate polyherbal tablet containing ethanolic extract of leaves of Trianthema porctulacastrum Linn., Leonotis nepetaefolia (L.) R.Br. and Diplocyclos palmatus (L.) Jeffrey. Further anti-diabetic activity of optimized formulation was investigated in alloxan induced animal model. Results indicate optimized batch showed significant activity when compared with standard drug.
