Abstract

Motherhood is an inevitable part of a woman’s life. It is a natural law that a woman should carry herbaby in her wombfor 9 months and to undergo the process of labour. The majority of pregnant women experience some type of morning sickness (70 - 80%). Recent studies show that at least 60,000 cases of extreme morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) are reported by those who treated in a hospital but the numbers are expected to be much higher than this since many women are treated at home or by outpatient care with their health care provider. The incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum is more nowadays. Current studies show that up to 90% of pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting. The main aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of effectiveness of structured teaching programme (STP) on knowledge regarding Hyperemesis Gravidarum among Antenatal mothers. The study was conducted by using pre experimental design with one group pre and post test design without control group. The present study was conducted in selected Hospital, Kolar. Non Probability Convenient sampling technique was used for this study. The total sample size was 60, closed ended questionnaires was used for data collection. During pre-test none (0% ) of the antenatal mothers had Adequate knowledge, 33.3% of antenatal mothers had moderately adequate knowledge and 66.6% of antenatal mothers had inadequate knowledge regarding Hyperemesis Gravidarum. The mean pre-test score was 15.1 with standard deviation 3.33 and the mean post test score was 23.1 with the standard deviation 2.02. The mean difference was 42.62. The obtained ‘t’ value 28.25 was highly significant at p < 0.05 level. The mean post test level knowledge score regarding Hyperemesis Gravidarumamong antenatal mothers is significantly higher than mean pre test knowledge score. Thus the difference observed in the mean score value of pre-test and post-test were true difference. Hence the structure teaching programme was effective in improving the level of knowledge regarding Hyperemesis Gravidarum among antenatal mothers.
