Abstract

Aconitum plants have dual characteristics of efficacy/toxicity in the clinic. They can treat heart
failure as well as causing severe cardiotoxicity. Here, Five aconitum species, Aconitum brachypodum Diels.
(ABD), Aconitum pendulum Busch. (APB), Aconitum soongaricum Stapf. (ASS), Aconitum leucostomum
Worosch. (ALW), and Aconitum contortum Finet & Gagnep. (ACFG) were collected, extracted and applied
to H9c2 myocardial cells. The present study used MTT assay, treatment index, grey relational analysis, network pharmacology and network toxicology technology to analyze the efficacy/toxicity indexes and active
components of five drugs. These results showed that aconitine made a prominent contribution to the effect
and toxicity of aconitum plants and Aconitum pendulum Busch. possessed the best quality among five aconitum samples. The present study provided an effective strategy for substances identification of aconitum
herbal medicine and provide a basis for the priority selection of aconitum medicine in the clinic
