Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate postoperative parameters with light cured resin (LCR) as compared to non-eugenol dressing following periodontal flap surgery. Materials and Methods: PICO strategy comprised of adult humans with chronic periodontitis undergoing flap surgery (P) comparing LCR (I) with conventional non-eugenol dressing (C) to observe periodontal tissue healing effects (O) Quantitative data were analyzed in seven random-effects meta-analyses model considering: Gingival index (GI), Plaque index (PI), Pain, Patient satisfaction/preference, Appearance, Taste/smell and Retention of pack. Results: PI, GI, pain reduction, patient satisfaction,  appearance, taste/smell and retention of the pack for LCR group were more effective with a standardized mean difference of -0.57 (95% CI = -1.11 to -0.04; Z value = 2.10,  -0.56 (95% CI = -0.84 to -0.27; Z value = 3.87), -0.14 (95% CI = -0.48 to 0.19; Z value = 0.83), -0.42 (95% CI = -0.66 to -0.18; Z value = 3.44), -0.54 (95% CI = -0.83 to -0.25; Z value = 3.69), -0.40 (95% CI = -0.73 to -0.07; Z value = 2.36), -0.08 (95% CI = -0.1 to 0.16; Z value = 1.77) respectively. Conclusion: LCR showed better patient acceptability and proved to be a better alternative to Coe pak. Clinical Relevance: LCR material has superior physical properties in terms of easy manipulation, translucent pink color, better surface smoothness and interdental retention as compared to non-eugenol pack. LCR leads to maintenance of periodontal heath and decrease in post-operative inflammatory parameters like PI, GI and pain scores when applied as a dressing material after periodontal flap surgery.
