A Review On Flubendazole, A Potential Single Oral Drug Therapy For Prophylaxis Of Filariasis

Abstract

While mass drug administration interventions for neglected tropical diseases continue to be a cornerstone of filariasis management, they were put on hold with the current global coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Due to this, it is now necessary to consider alternative approaches for treating diseases like filariasis. In these approaches, a single medication treatment regimen could be used instead of a double- or triple-drug treatment regimen, making it a less time-consuming drug therapy for underprivileged patients in developing nations. This review discusses the possible application of flubendazole as an oral single-drug therapy and the methods used to increase its bioavailability.
