Abstract

Oxadiazole is a heterocyclic five-member ring contains two nitrogen atoms and one oxygen atom and derived from furan by replacement of two methane group by pyridine type nitrogen atoms. The oxadiazole ring is shown to be resistant to nucleophilic substitutions. Oxadiazole is a lead compound to develop potent bioactive compounds. 1,3,4-Oxadiazole has been reported to have major pharmacological effects such as anti-diabetic, antibacterial, anti-cancer, anticonvulsant, antioxidant, anti- Alzheimer's, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, cardiovascular, anti-tuberculosis, anti-pyretic, and insecticidal. The current review summarizes the 1,3,4-Oxadiazole moiety's physicochemical characteristics, various synthesis processes, and various pharmacological actions and this review also combines the most recent biology updates on numerous compounds having 1,3,4-oxadiazole as a core component. In recent years researchers have developed a number of novel methods to synthesized its derivatives. Here, we highlight the latest developments in synthesis during the year 2021-2023.
