Abstract

The aim of this study was to find phyto-component by GC-MS and form stable emulgel consist
of Salvadora persica (SP) root extract and in vitro characterization of emulgel by changed parameters which
can be used as anti-aging effect. Methanol was used for maceration of the root powder. Antioxidant activity
of SP extract was measured by using DPPH method. In vitro evaluation, organoleptic evaluation, pH, electrical conductivity, zeta potential and zeta size were carried out at different storage conditions for period of
90 days. Sun protection factors of formulation was determined. Phytochemical constituents like alkaloids,
flavonoids, steroids, sesquiterpenoids, triterpenoids, saponins, glycosides, tannins, free amino acids, carbohydrates were qualitatively analyzed by GS-MS. The formulation proved to be stable in all aspects with an
antioxidant activity of 84 ± 1 % and notable phenolic and flavonoid contents of up to 48 mg GAE/g and 13 mg
QE/g, respectively. Particles have spherical shape; pH and electrical conductivity were in normal range with
-24.4 mV of surface charge. Emulgel was stable and incorporated with 4% (w/w) SP root powder extract.
Anti-aging activity is related to polyphenolic compounds present in extract. Thus, it can be said that SP root
extracts can be applied securely to skin.
