Repellent effect on biting adults of Aedes aegypti Linn. (Diptera: Culicidae) for the smoke of incense sticks having mahuwa oil cake

Abstract

The repellency of smoke of incense sticks having mahuwa oil cake was investigated against the day biting mosquito Aedes aegypti. Starved adult females of this mosquito species were utilised in cages to effect of smoke vis-a- vis biting behaviour in laboratory conditions. The percentage protection offered by smoke of incense sticks ranged from 82 to 100. The study revealed the protective effect of smoke for a period of 1.5 hours in the experimental trials. Results of the study indicated that the protective effect of smoke from incense sticks having mahuwa oil cake as an additional ingredient.
