Abstract

Plants have numerous bioactive principles used in the treatment and cure of diseases. Herbal medicine has an essential role in treating ailments. The Phytoconstituents present in plants have higher potency and various biological effects. Ixora species is an enduring shrub belonging to the Rubiaceae family. It is a blooming plant with over 500 species commonly grown in the United States and Florida. The Ixora plant has numerous species and only a few like Ixora coccinea. Ixora alba, Ixora philippinensis Merr, and Ixora chinensis lamk are explored for their biological properties such as analgesics, antioxidants, anti-microbial, and anti-cancer. Ixora plants are rich in phytoconstituents like rutin flavanoid, β –sitosterol, triterpenoid ursolic acid, D- mannitol, proanthocyanidins, and quercetin, kaempferol, and anthocyanin glycosides. The goal of the current review is to draw attention to the photochemistry and pharmacological properties of Ixora species and their potential for use in nano-phytosomal research in the future
