Abstract

Acute ureteric colic also known as Renal Colic is a very severe and colicky pain which is sudden in onset and radiating from back, down the flank and into the groin. One of the major etiological reasons for acute ureteric colic is Nephrolithiasis. Among the total population of 857 kidney stone patients, who were admitted to the emergency department of a tertiary care hospital, due to acute ureteric colic, block randomization was utilized to assign patients to the treatments, Diclofenac Sodium (429) and Tramadol (428). The patients in both arms showed significant reduction in their severity of pain which was assessed using the mean difference of NRS-11 score before (Baseline) and after 30 minutes of treatment. Diclofenac Sodium gave a significant improvement as evidenced as (2.295±0.6415; p<0.0001, CI of 95%) and Tramadol (1.143±0.6077; p<0.0001, CI of 95%). The results of reduction of severity of pain of both Diclofenac Sodium and Tramadol for patients having Ureteric Colic was significant as observed from the results.
