Abstract

Background:  Nighantu (Lexicon) is one of the important aspects and significant facets in the study of Ayurveda and especially in the subject of Dravyaguna Vijnana. In the practice of Ayurvedic lexicons, Bhavaprakash Nighantu is a treatise of Dravyaguna. In order to strengthen or promote the health of all body tissues, it is necessary to screen some Rasyanadravyas, which are mentioned in Bhavaprakasha and recent studies are conducted in this study. The aim of this study to critically evaluate the Rasayana medicinal plant mentioned in Bhavaprakasha Nighantu which helps in maintenance of the health. Material and Methods: Ayurvedic texts, Bhavaprakash Nighantu, as well as the data web-based search engines, journal, were used to search for relevant literature and information.Result: All Rasayana dravya was studied for their botanical name, rasa, veerya, vipaka, useful parts and varga from the Bhavaprakasha Nighantu. The majority of drugs contain madhura, tikta rasa, sheetaveerya, and madhuravipaka, which enhances the nutritional value of Rasa directly by enhancing Agni or digestion and metabolism and also promote or strengthen the health of all body tissues. The potential of antioxidant and immunomodulator activity has been extensively studied. Tannin, saponin glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds are all present in Rasayana drugs to have immunomodulator activity.Conclusion:The potential of Rasayana herbs as immunomodulatory activityis enormous and by using the deepana, pachana, and ojavardhaka effects, the aforementioned Bhavaprakashnighantuokta Rasayanadravyas may assist in achieving the superb Saptadhatu rasa etc.
