Abstract

Ivabradine used to treat angina pectoris and it shown a biological half‑life of about 2 h. To avoid repeated administration, present investigation focused on development of buccal films to avoid repeated administration. The buccal patches were prepared by solvent casting technique using different polymers like carbopol, HPMC and Guar gum. The prepared patches were evaluated for surface pH, swelling index, thickness, weight variation, hardness, friability and drug content.                    The prepared buccal patches with carbopol shown highest bioadhesion as compared with other polymers. The bioadhesive strength exhibited good compatibility with oral cavity. The combination of HPMC and carbopol shows good adhesion. The highest bucco-adhesive strength was found to be in formulation eight. In-vitro drug release decrease with the addition of guar gum due to enhancement in swelling of the polymer.  Based on the obtained results,  IF8 was concluded as best formulation.
