Abstract

Background:Physical inactivity is correlated with a higher risk of these conditions in both younger and elderly populations. By practicing healthy habits, nursing students can create a pool of talented nurses more likely to provide efficient management and counseling techniques to maintain optimal blood pressure levels.

Objectives: This study was carried out to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding the figure of  eight exercise for controlling blood pressure among nursing students.

Methods: The descriptive survey research approach was used for this study. The nursing students from 2nd year to 4th year were selected as samples for this study. A non-probability-convenient sampling technique was used. The data was collected from 110 participants using an online platform from January to February 2023. The data collection tool consists of three parts. Baseline knowledge and attitude of students regarding the figure of eight exercise for controlling blood pressure were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire for knowledge, and a 5-point Likert scale was used to assess attitude. The datas were analyzed by using version 25 IBM*SPSS Statistics.

Results: It showed about 62 (56.4%) students had moderate knowledge regarding the figure-eight exercise for controlling blood pressure, and less than 50% of study participants had a negative attitude toward the figure-eight exercise for controlling blood pressure.

Conclusions: This study’s findings imply that the majority of the students had moderate knowledge regarding the figure of eight exercise for controlling blood pressure. Attitude was important for effective control of blood pressure, and this study's findings show students have less attitude. Therefore, strengthening their attitude to need more continuing nursing education to improve their management skills in controlling blood pressure and helping to improve the attitude of students regarding the figure of eight exercise on controlling blood pressure will reduce the incidence of hypertension and prevent the complications of hypertension when they take care of patients in health sectors in the future.
