A Study on the Pregnancy and Childbirth Experiences of Married Migrant Women

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of the present study is to identify and understand the experiences of healthcare system in Korea among married immigrant women during the period of pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum . Methods: Data of 6 married migrant women were collected through focus group interviews, which were then recorded and transcribed. The data were analyzed with a qualitative content analysis. Results: Four categories were established: 1. Challenges During Pregnancy and Childbirth; 2. Overcoming Difficult Times with the Help of Others; 3. Life Filled with Gratitude and Happiness; and 4. Strategies for Coping with Pregnancy, Childbirth and Child-rearing. Conclusion: By analyzing the pregnancy and childbirth experiences of married migrant women, developing a practical and specific intervention program for pregnancy and childbirth of immigrant women is deemed to be of great importance.
