Abstract

This study examines the literary works of Uma Parameswaran to examine how Indian women perceive immigration, nostalgia, culture, language, and tradition. Dear Deedi, My Sister is the only book on which the author focuses. Because she could travel to India through letters to her beloved "deedi" or sister, Sapna in this book did not experience pangs of nostalgia. In Parameswaran's works, especially in Dear Deedi, My Sister, the sentiment of homesickness also engulfs immigrants from India and other nations. Indian woman Sapna writes to her sister who lives in her country of origin. The English word "sister" cannot adequately describe the emotion connected with "deedi." The contrast between India and Canada that Sapna continues to write about gives her longing for the country she left behind—a country that still exists in memory—some relief.
