Formulation Of Orally Disintegrating Tablets Of Powdered Guava Leaves (Psidium Guajava L.)

Abstract

Guava Leaves (Psidium guajava L.) are used as a natural API (Active pharmaceutical ingredient) to treat many diseases from ancient times as it contains many beneficial constituents. Oral disintegrating tablet is a solid dosage form which contains medicinal substances and usually within a matter of seconds it disintegrates rapidly when placed upon the tongue. Using guava leaf powder as a natural API we formulated the oral disintegrating tablet by direct compression method where cross carmellose sodium used as a super disintegrating agent.  A round shaped, Brownish green color concave (1.1 cm) size tablet was formed and major official as well as non-official tests were accomplished. Guava leaves contain phenolic compound which use to maintain blood glucose level. It also contains flavonoids which have a significant and promising antibacterial property. Orally disintegrated guava leaf tablet mainly used to address the gum disease and pyorrhea.
