The objective of the present study is to assess the antibacterial efficacy of water extracts , ethanolic extracts , combined water extracts and combined ethanolic extracts of Jatropha curcas leaves, Holoptelea integrifolia leaves, against five pathogenic bacteria i.e., Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella typhi,. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of various plant extracts against gram-positive bacteria, and gram-negative bacteria, have been determined using the agar-cup plate method. It was concluded from the results that the combined ethanolic extract of Jatropha curcas leaves, and Holoptelea integrifolia leaves were more effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Escherichia coli compared to their water extract, ethanolic extracts and combined water extract.
Where the combined water extract of Jatropha curcas leaves, and Holoptelea integrifolia leaves were more effective in inhibiting the growth of Bacillus cereus and Salmonella typhi as compared to their individual water extract , ethanolic extract and combined ethanolic extracts.
For antibacterial action, amoxicillin was compared to the zone of inhibition of extracts.
