Abstract

Dicyclomine HCL is an antispasmodic drug which is usually used in treatment of smooth muscle spasm of the gastrointestinal tract however it undergoes to first pass Metabolism. Therefore, to develop sustained release tablet of Dicyclomine HCl to avoid first pass metabolism, increase bioavailability and patient’s compliances. This compromises a new range of product having desired characteristics and intended profits. In this study sustained release tablets were prepared using direct compression method. Tablets produced by direct compression method contain xanthan gum and HPMC K15M as polymer and talk and magnesium stearate as a glidant. The dissolution study was performed on pH 6.8 and the In-vitro release was found 99.210 % with F4. Furthermore, the drug release was found to be comparable to the marketed tablet.
