Abstract

Leadership and management have been used interchangeably in the literature as the two concepts are similar in many ways. Both include working with people and achieve organizational targets. However, there are differences as well. Management is about making sure employees get things done in order to obtain work-related goals. Leadership is more complex and concerned about factors such as influence, motivation, change along with the achievement of targets. It is quite clear however that management and leadership are connected and cannot be separated (Harrison, 2018 ,p.3), where Mullins (1996) have suggested that leadership is an activity or character that managers ought to execute. Hence, both concepts are important within organizational contexts.
