Abstract

Introduction: The umbilical cord is the main link and vital attachment between mother and baby, always represented as a blood and emotional parenthood relationship. Umbilical cord blood is the blood that remains in the placenta and in the attached umbilical cord after childbirth. Maternity nurses are an integral part of health care providers in all phases of life. Nurse's knowledge and attitude regarding umbilical cord blood collection will help to achieve this process successfully. Nurses have a specified role in teaching patients. They have a reliable source of health information, so they must be aware of the latest medical diagnosis and treatment.

Methodology: The research approach adopted for the study was a quantitative approach. The study was conducted on 30 staff nurses with Purposive sampling. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistics

Results: Result shows that in the pre-test, mean knowledge score was 19.14, median 21, mode 23, standard deviation 2.90, and range 12. Whereas the post-test, mean knowledge score was 36.89, median 39, mode 38, standard deviation 4.60 and range 19. The overall difference in mean knowledge score was 17.72, median 18, mode 15, standard deviation 1.7 and range 07.This clearly shows that the STP imparted to staff nurses had significant improvement in the post-test level of knowledge, regarding stem cells and umbilical cord blood banking.
