Abstract

Herbal drugs are being utilized on a global scale for the treatment of numerous disorders. The little occurrence of adverse effects associated with the use of medicinal plants serves as a compelling factor that draws individuals towards their therapeutic applications. The usual dose form of herbal medication is subject to several limitations, such as low absorption, reduced bioavailability, and lower penetration across biological membranes. These limitations ultimately restrict the use of herbal medicines. Therefore, the implementation of innovative drug delivery systems, such as Phyto-Phospholipid Complexes methods, effectively addresses the aforementioned challenges associated with herbal extract or plant actives. The implementation of this advanced technological technique has resulted in a reduction in dosage required to achieve the desired therapeutic effect. Furthermore, it has increased the stability of the treatment through chemical linkage, allowing for enhanced permeation through the skin and targeted delivery to specific areas. Additionally, this technique has demonstrated the ability to transition from a hydrophilic to a lipophilic environment, leading to improved pharmacokinetic parameters. This study provides a comprehensive overview of recent research on the potential therapeutic applications of Phytosomes complexes for various diseases. It discusses the commercially available formulations, the process of transportation through phytosomes, and the future prospects in this field. The utilization of the Phytosomes technology in pharmacological therapy holds significant potential for suggesting novel directions and expanding the frontiers of therapeutic interventions.
