Abstract

Urolithiasis is a common urological condition affecting millions of people worldwide, with a high recurrence rate and associated morbidity. Medicinal plants have been traditionally used for the prevention and treatment of urolithiasis due to their potential anti-urolithiatic activity. In recent years, numerous studies have evaluated the phytochemical and pharmacological properties of medicinal plants in the management of urolithiasis. We have collected data from previous 10-15 years publication. The plants discussed include various 30 plants among others. The pharmacological effects of these plants include inhibition of crystal nucleation and aggregation, modulation of urinary pH and solubility, and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the medicinal plants with proven anti-urolithiatic activity, highlighting their mechanism of action, active constituents, and preclinical and clinical evidence. However, further research is needed to validate the safety and efficacy of these medicinal plants in the management of urolithiasis, as well as to identify potential drug interactions and adverse effects. Overall, medicinal plants represent a promising source of natural compounds for the prevention and treatment of urolithiasis, and their integration into conventional medical practice warrants further exploration.
