Metagenomics : A Review
Abstract
The study of omnipresent micro organisms pose a huge challenge overtime due to the discovery of unknown organisms and their interaction. Metagenomics is a direct genetic analysis of genomes present in an environmental sample. Metagenomics is most likely to become a fruitful contributor to solve various problems in the near future. Metagenomics usually concentrates upon the isolation of genetic material which is recovered directly from environmental samples. Over the past two decades, metagenomics had emerged inorder to trace out microbial communities with an aim of understanding microbes genetic diversity, population structure and their ecological role. Requirement of novel enzymes, molecules, products etc is steadily increasing now a days for industrial purposes. This need can be compensated with the effort of metagenomics. Moreover, metagenomics also supports the enormous requirements in the field of medicine, agriculture, ecology etc. Apart from this, metagenomics also roots its benefit in bioremediation and xenobiotic metabolism too. The major aim of the review is to inculcate the readers regarding the milestones of metagenomics.
