Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the Antidepressants activity of Flower and Fruit extract of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis Linn in experimental animals.

Materials and Methods: Nyctanthes arbor-tristis of fruit and flower collected. fruit is dried, grinded and extracted using solvent ethanol and aqueous extract of flower. Antidepressants activity was evaluated by forced swimming test, tail suspension test and shock induced test, the parameter analyzed was duration of immobility time at different doses of extract (200mg and 400mg) compared with standard imipramine 10mg/kg control group.

Result: The ethanolic extract of fruit and aqueous extract of flowers of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis showed significant Antidepressant activity at both the doses (200 and400mg/kg, respectively) when compared with the control group in forced swimming test and tail suspension test.

Conclusion: The extract fruit and flowers of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis was showed significant Antidepressant activity.
