Comparison of the effectiveness of mindfulness based cognitive therapy and life review therapy on depression and quality of life for elderly

Abstract

Background: The literature suggests the increasing application of  mindfulness  based  cognitive therapy and life review therapy on depression and quality of life for elderly.

Objective: The purpose of this research was to compare the effectiveness of mindfulness  based  cognitive therapy and life review therapy on depression and the quality of life for the elderly.

Methods:  The statistical population of the research included all elderly people 60 and older in Tehran. Among the above society, 8 elderly people were selected based on available sampling based on the goal and were randomly divided into two groups of four people to receive mindfulness based cognitive therapy interventions  and life review. The study method in this research was a single-case experiment experimental design. Depression and quality of life questionnaires were used for data collection.

Results: The results of the research indicated that both methods significantly decrease the depression of the elderly and increase the quality of  life of the elderly.

Conclusions: The results of data analysis showed both methods are effectives Thus, the effectiveness of the two therapy methods has been stable for all subjects in the follow-up phase. According to the results of this research, it is possible to use mindfulness  based  cognitive therapy and life review to reduce depression and increase the quality of life of the elderly.
