A Correlative Study To Assess The Effectiveness Of Informational Booklet On Knowledge And Attitude Of Mothers Regarding Sibling Rivalry And Its Prevention Among Under Five Children In Selected Urban Community, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

Sibling rivalry is a type of competition or animosity among siblings, whether blood – related or not children feel they are getting unequal amounts of attention. Sibling rivalry is particularly heightened when children are very close in age and of the same gender or where one child is intellectually possessed.

The sample was selected by using Non probability Convenience Sampling Technique. The sample size was 60 among mothers of under five children of selected urban community Kalyanpur, Kanpur.  The data was collected by using self-knowledge questionnaire and Likert attitude scale. The result of the study showed that mean and standard deviation of pre-test and post-test level of knowledge among mothers of under five children is 11.36 ± 24.03 and 2.72 ± 2.52. the obtained “t” value is 17.49 with 59 degree of freedom was higher than the table value 2.00 with p value < 0.05. this shows that there is no association between pre-test and post- test knowledge regarding sibling rivalry.

The result of the study showed that mean and standard deviation of pre-test and post-test level of attitude among mothers of under five-year children is 21.43 ± 36.13 and 8.21 ± 6.01. the obtained “t” value is 19.75 with 59 degree of freedom was higher than the table value 2.00 with p value < 0.05. this shows that there is no association between pre-test and post- test attitude regarding sibling rivalry.

There is a correlation between knowledge and attitude score.

The study was concluded that there was an effectiveness of information booklet on Knowledge and attitude regarding sibling rivalry among mothers of under five children.
