Molecular interaction studies in a binary mixture of ketone and alcohol using Thermo-Optical analysis

Refractive indices and densities of a binary mixture – methyl ethyl ketone and n-propanol were measured at three different temperatures namely 303.15K, 308.15K and 313.15K .Using these direct parameters, optical parameters such as specific optical volume (ν), specific optic impedance (Z_o), specific refraction (rm) and specific light velocity (µ) were determined. The excess values of these parameters were used to elucidate the nature of molecular interaction present in the binary system. The positive as well as negative excess values show the presence of molecular interactions present in the components of the mixture.
