Abstract

A stroke is a disease that occurs when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel or breakage of blood vessel in the brain thus, interrupting blood flow to an area of the brain. When either of these things happens, local parts of brain tissues begin to die and necrosis form, which leads to the brain damage. Ischemic stroke is the most common kind of stroke, accounting for 87 percent of all cases. Aim: The study was aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of health teaching program on knowledge and practices regarding prevention and early management of complications related to thrombolysis among staff nurses working in selected hospital. Methodology: The present study design was pre- experimental one group pre -test post- test design to assess the effect health teaching program on knowledge and practices regarding prevention and management of complication related to thrombolysis. The staff nurses working in selected hospital was enrolled in the study. A non- probability purposive sampling technique was adopted to take 60 samples based on the certain predetermined criteria. The reliability of the tool was established by using test-retest method for knowledge. Section and Inter- rater method for practices section. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was found to be 0.86 for knowledge section and Cohen’s Kappa was 0.94 for Practices section. The period was data collection was from 11th MAR – 20 MAR 2022. The data gathered was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Pearson’s correlation coefficient was 0.38 which is positive indicating that there is positive correlation between knowledge and practices among staff nurses regarding prevention and management of complication related to thrombolysis. T-value for the t-test was 3.12with58 degrees of freedom. Corresponding p-value was small (less than 0.05), the null hypothesis is rejected. Conclusion - There is significantly positive correlation between knowledge and practices among staff nurses regarding prevention and management of complication related to thrombolysis More the Knowledge among staff nurses better are the practices among them regarding prevention and management of complication related to thrombolysis.
